Synthesis of Pt–Mo/Carbon Nanocomposites from Single-Source Molecular Precursors: A (1:1) PtMo/C PEMFC Anode Catalyst Exhibiting CO Tolerance*

Reactive, thermal degradation of py2Pt[MoCp(CO)3]2, (Me)(cod)PtMoCp(CO)3, orfPt3ðdppmÞ3ðCOÞ1⁄2MoðCpÞ g[BPh4]/Vulcan carbon powder composites affords Pt–Mo/carbon nanocomposites containing metal nanoparticles of approximate compositions, PtMo2, PtMo, or Pt3Mo, widely dispersed on the carbon support. Total metal loadings range from 29–58 wt%. When tested as an anode electrocatalyst in a PEM fuel ...

PtMo alloy and MoO(x)@Pt core-shell nanoparticles as highly CO-tolerant electrocatalysts.

PtMo alloy and MoO(x)@Pt core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) were successfully synthesized by a chemical coreduction and sequential chemical reduction method, respectively. Both the carbon-supported alloy and core-shell NPs show substantially higher CO tolerance, compared to the commercialized E-TEK PtRu alloy and Pt catalyst. These novel nanocatalysts can be potentially used as highly CO-tolerant a...

Electrochemical properties of iron oxide nanoparticles as an anode for Li-ion batteries

The synthesis of iron oxide nano-particles by direct thermal decomposition was studied. Simultaneous thermal analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results confirmed the formation of iron-urea complex, and disclosed iron oxide formation mechanism. Calcination of the iron-urea complex at 200°C and 250°C for 2 hrs. resulted in the formation of maghemite along with hematite as a seco...

Genesis of a highly active cerium oxide-supported gold catalyst for CO oxidation.

X-Ray absorption spectra show that a CeO(2)-supported CO oxidation catalyst prepared from Au(III)(CH(3))(2)(C(5)H(7)O(2)) initially incorporated Au(III) complexes that were catalytically active at 353 K; during operation in a flow reactor, the gold aggregated into clusters and the catalytic activity increased.
